Powers has Sid navigating through a cast of richly-developed characters, all with unique perspectives and ever-so interesting roles to play throughout. The first-person narrative also allows for humorous, but still very important, fourth wall breaks.

His first series has a story line inspired by his lifelong interests in philosophy and religion.

"I read a lot of philosophy and religion and, over the last number of years, a lot of Taoism and Buddhism," he said. "One of my favorite writers is a guy called Kierkegaard. I read him a lot. I don't mean to make this sound mystical, but I sort of had a vision for the first four books."

Powers explained that Kierkegaard incorporates his four stages of life into his writings and teachings, and each stage became a theme for Powers' first series, with the main character Rory experiencing these stages as the books progress.

Gene Powers was "raised right" in an Irish-Catholic community in Savannah, Georgia.

Gene was a gifted social worker and university professor, touching the lives of countless students. He instilled the kind, nurturing qualities that make a successful public servant in every student he taught.

He lived and worked in Northern Ireland for sixteen years. There, he raised his three children, taught and coached Little League baseball and tried to dodge the rain.

Having spent the last eight years of his life in Northwest Georgia, Gene taught at Dalton State College, wrote books and poetry and rode his motorcycle every chance he could get. Gene became a Pappy to his first grandchild in 2019.

Impressively, Gene authored 10 books, and carved out a unique genre of literature.

He is the author of seven books in the series 'An American-Irish-Philosophical-Romance-Murder Mystery” and three in ‘The Adventures of Sid: A Ninja-Buddhist Detetive.'

Sadly, Gene Powers passed away in 2020, but his legacy lives on in his children, his friends and in his numerous published works.
